Chicago natives Common, Rahm Emanuel and Sherri Shepherd were joined by KeKe Palmer (who grew up around Chicago) to raise money for The Common Ground Foundation last night. And with so many Chicagoans in the room, they danced and "stepped" the night away for a good cause. See pics inside...
Last night, Common hosted the 2011 Common Ground Foundation Gala Fundraiser at The Intercontinental Hotel in Chicago.
He started The Common Ground Foundation to help youth in underserved communities become strong leaders.
"The View" and "The Newlywed Game" co-host Sherri Shepherd was one of the gala's honorees last evening.
George Daniels , a legendary "stepper" and Chicago resident, came out to support Common's cause and of course set it off on the dance floor.
Fab actress KeKe Palmer was also an honoree. Loving this flirty, yet appropriate, purple look for her.
Chicago Mayor-Elect (and President Obama's former Chief of Staff) Rahm Emmanuel helped support the hottie rapper by sharing a few words.
Maya Angelou brought her wisdom and words of advice to the gala. She was also honored by the foundation last evening.
When asked about the event, Keke said "Everybody loves Common. I call his rap poetry rap, 'cause what he says is so, you feel it when he says it, you know? So I think it's great what he's doing now. I love to be part of it."
Common later performed for the audience and said "You got the red carpet and the cameras going, but it's about really being able to touch down with the youth, really being able to leave an impression and be able to empower them."
Sweet. Great cause for Common and the rest of the attendees!
